Sorry, but yeah that's me...

I was born on the west coast of Skåne (Scania) the very south of Sweden in 1970 (I know, I’m getting old). I took up photography just a little in the early 90's when I bought my first SLR-cameras (Minolta Dynax 3000i and then Minolta Dynax 7000i), but didn't find it being that much fun since I thought using film was such a pain in the ass. But my interest took up a lot of speed when I bought a compact digital camera around 2001 and my first DSLR (Canon EOS 300D) in 2003.

I love shooting landscapes and seascapes and I at least used to consider it basically being my main thing. When I lived in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia for a while, I became interested in street photography, something that grew when I got back to Sweden and I was doing that a lot for a couple of years, putting landscape photography to the side. And now I've also put street photography to the side as well, since I started to collaborate with a friend and awesome model in 2015 which made me able to get into portrait/model photography. That is something that I’ve wanted to do more for quite a long time and now I nearly consider that being my main thing. And I’ve been reaching across the borders of Sweden, and I’ve been shooting with models in Denmark and the U.K, as well as with models from Belgium, France, Canada and Spain since I find it hard to find professional models here in Sweden. Doesn't have to be full time pro models, but models being professional.

I’m not a fan of the way nearly all portraits are today, retouched beyond infinity. I want people to look like people, not plastic dolls. But in a weird way, this seems to be how portraits are "supposed" to look like today, I just can't comply with that. And maybe my shots won't be as popular because of that, but that is something I definitely can live with. I'm not doing photography to get "likes" on Facebook. If people like what I do, that's great, but it's not why I do it.
I also like shooting on location. I like the surrounding to be a part of the shot, whether it's just some diffused cityscape or a forest, still that's what I prefer. Sometimes though I'm more or less "forced" to shoot in studios, for example in London. It's still fun, but I do prefer working on location.

I’m also looking for more models to collaborate and shoot with. Serious people. If interested, look me up on either PurplePort.com (as engdahlphotography) or ModelMayhem.com (#3901499) since I've got references there, or do the easiest and just drop me a line through my contact sheet here.

My photographic activity has been going up and down quite a bit through the years, with periods of not lifting the camera for a couple of months to doing it very regularly. It depends so much on weather, mood, inspiration and work load (on my regular job with "on call duty"). But since I don't make a living from photography, I can afford to do photography just when it's fun, when I'm inspired to do it, and not when I have to. Though these days with portrait/model photography, I feel like I'm inspired all the time and I'd love to shoot more than I do.

I still share photography with my other passion in life, music. I have a home studio, where I (try to) write and record my own music and I also play in two bands.

And that obvious "I-am-a-serious-photographer-so-I-have-a-camera-to-my-face" selfie.
