Fujifilm

RAW or JPEG

I wrote a post back in March about me getting the Fujifilm X100VI and about trying out shooting JPEG as a change. Well, I’ve tried that and it’s not for me.

While I don’t really enjoy post-processing photos that much, I still want to give my photos “my touch“ (whatever that is) with the different types of presets I have developed in Lightroom and that I usually always use. I tried shooting both JPEG’s and also some RAW, both using the in-camera Fujifilm film simulations and use them on RAW files in Fujifilm’s X RAW Studio, but they don’t do it for me. I don’t know, I’ve seen other photographers using them with some really nice results, but it doesn’t work for me.

One of the, or maybe it was the actual main reason for doing the whole “JPEG shooting thing“, was that my old iMac (and also this old MacBook Pro that I’m typing this on while in my hotel room in Shanghai) could not read the RAW files from my new Fujifilm X100VI because I couldn’t update Mac OSX to one that Lightroom/Camera RAW needed. I’d say that’s the only downside of owning an Apple computer so far. The M4 MAX Mac Studio that I’ve bought now is quite amazing, and I’m sure it will keep being amazing for years to come until it also will be too old. But that’s a problem for another time…

Anyways, I’m back to shooting all RAW and doing a little post-processing in Lightroom and while it’s not my favourite thing to spend time on, I still prefer the results that I get from doing that.

Okay, I bought the Fujifilm X-T4...

And I received it today.

I got it with the battery grip, since I normally shoot a lot of portraits and I refuse to hold the camera in a stupid way, when I can hold it in a great and ergonomic way. I don’t care that it gets bigger and a bit heavier, it’s a much better grip than without it + obviously the battery time x 3. It is a bit bigger and more hefty than the X-T2 with battery grip, which is only positive.

I bought Fujifilm’s twin battery charger, but it was back ordered, so have to wait for it, but it really takes forever to charge all three batteries in the camera, so I hope the wait won’t be too long. For landscape work I am gonna order an L-bracket from Really Right Stuff for it, and a cage from Small since I’m gonna start filming as well.

Don’t know if I’ll review it after using it for a while, don’t think I will be adding that much, since there are already lots of reviews online. We’ll see. Hopefully I can get out soon to test it, maybe in the weekend.

Fujifilm promoting GFX 50 with topless model

So apparently Fujifilm tried to promote its new medium format camera, the GFX 50 with a half naked female model in a room full of men. The camera is innovative and something fresh, but the way they tried to promote it wasn't. This has stirred up a bit of a shit storm, which is perfectly understandable.

Now I don't have a problem with nudity what so ever, and I shoot nudes myself, but what happened here is not cool and does not feel very fresh.

Well, read the article.
